The area
The Casteldoria locality is located on the hills of the municipality of Santa Maria Coghinas, between the lake of the same name and the sea of Valledoria, overlooked by the Casteldoria castle.
The Doria castle was built by the Doria family in the Middle Ages, at the end of the 12th century, in the same period when Castelsardo was fortified: a time when the Republic of Genoa sought to defend its possessions on Sardinian soil during the war with the Maritime Republic of Pisa.
The surrounding area is rich in geothermal activity: this creates the hot-water spring that flows into the natural pool of the Terme di Casteldoria. The thermal baths and the castle are open and accessible for visits or days of treatments and relaxation all year round.
